Man, you did some SERIOUS shopping at Linus. I like the idea of widening the quilt in the background. It looks like a pre-teen or teen quilt to me.

Having a back-up machine is wonderful!!!

I wasn't planning to widen it, but rather shorten it. And then make a whole other top out of the leftovers, so we shall see. It's got several things ahead of it on the list, but I hate not having anything on my design wall, lol.

Oops. I misunderstood. I do know that whatever you come up with is going to be great!!

I actually did think of widening it originally, and then remembered I said I was never quilting anything that big again myself, lol. Meanwhile it's bright and pretty hanging there. Much better than a blank wall!

That is some fun, funky fabric in the mostly completed top. I can't wait to see what you do with it. It almost looks like you've prepped it to sew the red strip right on. Not sure what size you're going for, though. Whatever you decide to do, you definitely have plenty!

I love stripes for binding. That's fantastic.

I *think* some of the funky fabric might be Kaffe Fassett. The "eggs" remind me of his style.

Oh, I didn't know you shouldn't go backward with a walking foot either. I don't backstitch on quilts, so I guess it never occurred to me one way or another. Here's to getting K's quilt DONE!

The strip on the right came in like that. not sure what was up with it, why they stopped.

Those funky ones are actually Moda! I was really surprised.

I don't backstitch with FMQ, but since I don't have a reinforcement stitch, and didn't want to have to bury so many darn threads, I figured I would just backstitch to reinforce when I move over to the next row, to avoid have to cut the thread right then and there. It's something I've done with the walking foot on previous quilts, and I guess it bent it somehow. I won't be doing it anymore, that's for sure!

So, I liked. I do backstitch one stitch on the corners when I'm binding. I realized it yesterday. I kind of hate my cheap-o walking foot I bought for the Janome, but it's working for now.

I pull my threads to the top when I'm fmqing so I can (mostly) bury threads from one side. It definitely makes it go faster.

I pull my threads to the top during FMQ to make sure I don't stitch over anything on the back, but then I pull the to the back to bury them. You bury them on the front?

Awesome shopping spree at Linus, lots of kids are going to love the quilts you make with those.

I think I can get at least 4 or 5 quilts at least and have leftovers. I didn't need fabric, but at least none of it got thrown away.

I was wondering the same thing! No one seemed to know. Haha, I already had enough kid fabric to see me through the year, too. But I don't have a fabric problem, really I don't... *twitches*

What a fun quilt top! Is that a circle?? Is it... appliqued? That's going to make some kid very happy :)

Sooooooooooo much fabric! I would be so overwhelmed, but it looks like you've got some good ideas brewing. I look forward to seeing what they turn into!

It appears to be hand appliqued. So I will likely machine stitch right near the inside edge just to be safe. My goal is to go through stuff much more quickly this year. but i miss shopping. This helps my shopping fix. i have a bin just for Linus fabric to keep it out of my regular stash.

Jewells! your ideas are all amazing! I would be sitting there wondering what the hell I've gotten myself into...and you are just KILLING it!

(PS: there's no such thing as TOO MUCH FABRIC...it's in the rule book....)

I want to try new things... this is a cheap way to experiment! Now I actually have to do something about it, lol.
