TTMT #390 - Baskets & Hobbits

In which I talk about the upcoming Silent Auction at The Linus Connection‘s Birthday Celebration, my spiffy, updated Hobbit-themed bathroom, and more!
If you’ve had any problems finding my patterns on Craftsy since the website’s relaunch, you can go directly to all of my patterns here. I have been in touch with Craftsy and requested that my direct link be corrected, so fingers crossed!

Boy have you been busy!!! I absolutely LOVE your Hobbit bathroom. You did such a great job on it - and the color you found was perfect.

The blocks are coming along nicely.

My opinion on the prizes for 2017 is that although I love sending and receiving prizes, it may be cost prohibitive for some folks to send them out (especially overseas) or to pay customs on them. I would hate for anyone to feel bad about receiving a prize if they felt like they couldn't reciprocate.

Thank you, I'm really happy with my little Hobbit room. :) I left out all the gardening we've done in the last week, too! The hubby and I both feel like the pace of our vacation has given us a bit of "can't sit down" sickness!

I'm thinking I might like to replace prizes with more swaps next year. That way we can each participate if we want to without obligation, but like I said, I'm completely open to suggestions. The birthday list kind of turned into an obligation, too, and I didn't mean for that to happen. New year is a good time for a new way of doing things!

I'm all for more swaps. And as for the birthday list, I haven't participated in that yet. I thought I'd start on it for the next year. I may be wrong but I don't think anyone feels obligated. I just wish everyone was on it.

I love what you did to spruce up the WC. ;) Someday I will get around to using the paint I bought years ago to paint my bathroom. *sigh* Oh well. Yours is lovely. I'll just have to come visit yours, lol.

I am sure you'll have a great weekend. I haven't seen anything about parents weekend at NMSU. They may have had one but I didn't hear about it either online or from my, ahem, daughter. So I probably won't see her til Thanksgiving, if she decides to come home then. Otherwise it will be winter break!

I don't think I managed to sponsor a monthly prize this year and I've won at least twice, so I kind of feel bad about that. Nor was I sending people birthday stuff. ALthough I had thought about a card. But honestly I can't keep up with birthdays in my small extended family, let alone a whole other group of people. Plus kid in college and all that. Anyway, I was going to suggest maybe skip it next year and try quarterly swaps? They could be one on one swaps so you only send to one person, and maybe a maximu size and weight to make it easier for international folks to particpate too. They wouldn't have to be holiday themed or anything, unless it was "seasonal" like Fall or Winter, etc. but we could surely come up with 2-4 themes for the year I would hope.

I have trouble with family birthdays too. :(

You can visit my WC ANYTIME! Seriously. There's always a place for you at my house. ♥

I can't wait to see the kids. UNT also has Family Weekend, but E isn't a huge organized stuff person so we would usually visit her and just hang out. G, of course, wants to Do All The Things.

The consensus so far is to let the prizes go. I originally started it in 2015 as a way to build up participation, but it's kind of become a burden for many people. More optional swaps is what I'm liking for an alternative!

I think we have a good core group of regulars here in LJ that would enjoy swapping.

Ah...Hobbit bathroom...now I understand. :) That's so fun and creative! And yes, the tp roll holder is perfect in there.

I'm wondering why Craftsy all of a sudden changed everything, but I'm one of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" crowd. I simply don't understand the online thing of constantly changing things around. Hope they fix your links.

Prizes...well, after the last one I gave out I honestly decided to not do it again, for several reasons I won't go into here. It's a fun idea, but swaps are even more fun, and optional. I have to admit I completely dropped the ball on the birthday thing, sad to say...about all I can keep track of is my immediate family.

Everyone needs *one* themed room, right? We have several. Ehem. ;) I still love that TP holder. It's the little things (and sometimes, gaudy things!).

Craftsy has been a big old pain in my rear. The email that everything was changing came while I was on vacation and it changed the day I got back. I put out fires the entire weekend after we got home!!

The prize thing has turned into a bit of an obligation. I think the consensus is to let that go and do more swaps. That is something I can get behind! It's our group, we make the rules!

The Hobbit bathroom is just gorgeous.  Can you just imagine a Star Trek themed one...yeah I can picture it ... now....

I agree with everyone here. I liked the idea of prizes, but personally felt what I could offer wasn't anywhere near as nice as what everyone else can. Especially if you are in the USA. You have the best stuff and much more variety.
I like the swap idea a lot better.  Like last year, that was fun and it was more personal.

Star Trek theme...Make it so!

It looks like prizes are out for next year. Good, I'm not the only one thinking it was time to move on!

Love love love the hobbit  bathroom its really cool , you have been busy this week.

I agree with everyone else about the prizes,  it's can get a little expensive and then I feel guilty if I win cause it costs sommuh to send. I like the idea of swaps, and maybe we could do a postcard exchange , not even handmade but just local to you, that would be a great way to stay in touch and give encouragement to each other.

The energy of our holiday has been bleeding into our daily lives. I find it somewhat impossible to not being doing something all the time after the mad pace of our week away!

The votes are definitely in and prizes are out for 2017! It's absolutely time.
