Yep. It's true. I got a kitty, and her name's Merry Belle. So I made her some toys!

Looks like you're moving along pretty well with the crochet afghan - looks great :D

Hope you find a toy your kitty will like!

I tried to comment days ago and LJ was being a butt, so I'm trying again. A toy one of my cats LOVED, was a ball made out of fun fur eyelash yarn. I made it on a small round loom, like a knifty knitter, but with only 12 pegs, with two strands of fun fur, or maybe one strand of that and a strand of a worsted yarn. I knit just a couple of inches or so, and the closed it at one end, stuffed it with polyfil and closed up the other end, and voila a fuzzy ball, that she would grab with her paw and fling across the room herself because it was so lightweight. This actually happened by accident because I was making some little puffskeins for a swap on the harry potter crafters yahoo group. I dropped one and she pounced on it and I never got it back.

Oh, what a fun idea! I've made knit balls before - not on a loom, though. So yours was pretty small, then?

I made bigger ones, like 4-6inches round with the blue KK loom, and also smaller ones on this smaller wooden loom. I'd say it was maybe 2-3" diameter... She liked the bigger balls too, but she LOVED the small ones. I definitely recommend the fun fur... it makes it look like a furry animal. I also think they really like the texture of yarn in the knitted/crocheted objects. She'll even play with a knitted flat swatch. It's very easy for them to grab. You just have to chck them every now and then to make sure it doesn't start to come undone, because you don't want her eating any yarn... it can be really dangerous if they swallow it as it can get wrapped around things inside them. As long as the toy is intact its fine, if they "love" it to death, give them a new one and throw the old one away.
